A Bright Future at The Old Globe

Sustainability ProgramBalboa Park Cultural Partnership, Sustainability Program

The Old Globe is brightening their buildings by installing LEDs in their offices and offsite facility. These upgrades will help save over 10,000 kWh of electricity a year!

The Old Globe was able to utilize SDG&E’s Business Energy Solutions (BES) program to replace lighting at their offsite facility. Through the BES program, they replaced about 80% of the old fluorescent lighting with LEDs. This was in part due to the SDG&E rebates that helped cover about half of the cost. The best part will be the immediate and continued savings on their energy bill.

In 2015, The Old Globe achieved their first LEED Silver certification for sustainable operations and maintenance. Their commitment to sustainable practices continued and in 2020 they were recertified LEED Silver. Their efforts have also been featured in U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED in Motion: Venues report. They are currently working on reducing their water use by planting more native and low-water plants, and planning their energy saving road map.

We look forward to the next decade of sustainability in one of Balboa Park’s historic venues!
